Sparc Systems has unveiled an ambitious blueprint to position Malawi as a leading exporter of digital solutions and ICT services across Africa, arguing that local technology firms are well-placed to tap into the continent's rapidly growing digital economy.
Presenting the strategy at the ICTAM Expo 2026 in Lilongwe, Sparc Systems Group Managing Director, Dr. Wisely Phiri, said Malawi must now focus on scaling its ICT capabilities beyond its borders after proving local firms can compete in regional markets.
Phiri said Malawi's ICT services exports more than doubled from about US$70 million in 2020 to US$154 million in 2023, describing the growth as evidence of the country's emerging status as a regional technology hub.
He said demand for digital services across Africa continues to grow, creating opportunities for Malawian firms to expand their footprint through innovation, skills development and investment in scalable technology solutions.
The company has already developed a suite of homegrown platforms serving sectors such as finance, agriculture, education and construction, including anti-money laundering system Comply Quest, academic records platform SARIS and contractor monitoring solution PROCOMOS.
