One of the ICT giants, Sparc Systems Limited, has celebrated five years of doing business at a colorful cocktail hosted at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre, Malawi.
From a small office with three employees in Blantyre in 2013, the firm has extended its footprint across the boarders with offices in Blantyre, Lilongwe, Kigali in Rwanda, as well as Lusaka and Copperbelt in Zambia
The company’s Managing Director, Wisely Phiri, said the first 5 years have been great for business.
"We have grown from a company of three people to having over 250 employees, 46 of which are permanent.
"This is a huge milestone bearing in mind that we require highly skilled employees with a minimum of degree. As Sparc systems we have done implementations in about 10 African countries including Ghana, Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone in some cases flying our engineers from our bases" Phiri said.
He attributed the growth to the skills the company has, saying Sparc invests a lot in skills of its employees.
“Our Sparc Educational Services has been in the middle of training our employees and we have open this up to offering certification training for other ICT professionals out there.
“Our engineers are certified to the global level meaning that if a company calls an engineer from the USA for example they will find out that they have the same certifications as Sparc Engineers.
“Our engineers are on the ground which mean they can respond to issues within minutes as compared to companies involving engineers from overseas who are costly in terms of moneys as they will charge air-tickets and accommodation and also in terms of time for an engineer to fly from overseas to these African countries,” Phiri said.
He said Sparc's impact on the African continent has been felt far and wide, adding that celebrating 5 years make us take time to back and celebrate our achievements with our customers.
"As Sparc Systems, we are talking of five years of existence, five years of offering premium enterprise ICT services to African companies and businesses which not only include enterprise ICT for telecoms, banks and government but also offering ICT trainings and certification exams to enable ICT professionals be recognized at the global level.
We are an authorized testing center for PearsonVue, ETS and GRE amongst others" he said.
ICT Association of Malawi President Mr. Bram Fudzulani said it is encouraging to see a Malawian ICT firm making inroads in other countries.
Sparc Systems Rwanda Manager, Mr. Srimal Rajapaksha said the company is making significant strides in Kigali.
Sparc Systems Zambia Manager, Mr. Misheck Mweemba said the company growth in the Zambia market has been exponential with has resulted into the company having two branches in Lusaka and Copperbelt in order to serve their customers better.
During the function the company also presented awards to employees who have been outstanding over the years.
Sandra Mulatho won the 2018 Top Performing Employees Award for her work in Sparc Education Services and Exams Administration whereas Robert Ward ( Senior Systems Engineer) won the Best Service Delivery Employee Award.
