One of the country’s leading IT companies, Sparc Systems Limited has donated medical equipment valued at over K3.2 million to Chatinkha Martenity wing of the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre.
The donated equipment include 2 recovery beds, 2 patients trolleys and stepping stools.
Speaking after making the donation, Managing Director for Sparc Systems Limited Wisely Phiri said as a Malawian Company, they felt obliged to support the hospital.
“We first heard that the hospital is in dire need of our support and as a Malawian company, we felt it necessary to assist with the little we could afford. We hope our donation will make a difference.
“But let me also appeal to hospital management to guard the donated equipment jealously. We hope this partnership will continue and we are ready to support the hospital in various ways in future,” said the youthful Phiri.
In her remarks, Chief Nursing Officer for QECH , Lucy Chigwenembe commended Sparc Systems Limited for the what she claimed was a timely donation.
“We thank Sparc Systems for this timely donation. As a public hospital, we treat several patients on a daily basis and government alone cannot afford to fulfil the needs of the hospital hence the need to have partners like them.
“We also commend CHAMACA team for the appeal which has made companies like Sparc to support us. We promise to take good care of the donated equipment,” said Chigwenembe flanked by her support staff.
The donation was sourced through an initiative by CHAMACA who organised a golf tournament towards the end of last year meant to fundraise for new equipment at Chatinkha maternity wing.
And speaking to Nyasa Times during the donation, representative of CHAMACA Professor Frank Taulo joined Chigwenembe in commending Sparc Systems Limited for making the donation. He then appealed to Management of QECH to prioritise buying hospital equipment with the little they make from the fees thy collect in one of the sections at the wing.
